About Us
Who We Are
Oak Counselling Services Society is a non-profit organization established in 1973.
Our goal is to provide affordable, secular and quality counselling to residents
of Greater Vancouver.
How We Operate
The affairs of Oak Counselling Society are managed by a part time Executive Director
who sits on the Board as a voting member. He or she recruits counsellors and supervisors,
manages intake, advises the Board and manages other administrative duties.
Our counsellors volunteer their services and come from a wide range
of cultures and experiences. They have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Counselling
Psychology, Social work or related disciplines and subscribe to a recognized Code
of Ethics.
All of our counsellors commit to and have an opportunity to meet in supervision
groups. Funding comes from client fees, donations, and a government grant. The Unitarian
Church of Vancouver provides office and counselling space to Oak Counselling for
a nominal fee.
Fees are based on a sliding scale related to household income and the number of
individuals supported on it. Currently, we are able to waive the fees for clients
who are in receipt of Social Assistance or provincial Disability Pension.

a governing Board of six. The society can have up to nine board members.
